Pelican brought Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR back in March 2019. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, it follows Ariel, a young mermaid who longs to leave her underwater kingdom for the world above.
After she disobeys her father King Triton and explores the human world, Ariel makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula and pays for it. The production was full of colour, energy, and the songs audiences already knew.
The ensemble work is superb. Aged from 8 to 19, of all shapes and sizes, the ensemble of seagulls and dancers displays absolute discipline, each individual seeming to shine with joy.
The Barefoot Review
Pelican Productions Junior shows have become some of my favourite youth productions. The casts are a joy to watch and you will always leave with a smile on your face. And this production of Disney’s A Little Mermaid Jr is no different.
