In the Heights came to Adelaide at the Arts Theatre in September 2019.
The show mixes Latin rhythms and dance with hip hop lyrics. It follows the residents of Washington Heights, a New York neighbourhood on the brink of change, as they chase their dreams and try to hold onto a sense of identity against rising rents, racism, lust and love.
Quiara Alegría Hudes wrote the book. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the music and lyrics. The original Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards and won four, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Choreography in 2008.
